On 5 June, IRTA brought together around 700 professionals from all its centres across Catalonia at Ben Viure Castle (Castellbisbal) to commemorate the institution's 40-year history. The event was designed as a space for reunion, recognition and a shared look at the great challenges of the future.
Over four decades, IRTA has grown alongside the region, conducting useful, transferable and impact-oriented research with the aim of strengthening the agri-food sector and generating knowledge that responds to the real needs of society. This internal meeting served to highlight the collective work that makes this purpose possible and to recognise the effort and commitment of all those who form part of the institution.
During the event, tribute was paid to staff with 25 and 40 years of service at IRTA, a clear demonstration of the value of accumulated knowledge and the importance of ensuring generational renewal within the public research system. Through a collaborative exercise, the teams also tested their collective memory and strengthened their links between people and areas of knowledge.
The institutional part of the event featured speeches by IRTA Director General Josep Usall and the Honourable Mr. Òscar Ordeig, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Government of Catalonia, who highlighted IRTA's strategic role in addressing current challenges: climate change, digitalisation, global health and the sustainability of food systems.
With this meeting, IRTA has not only looked back to recognise everything it has achieved, but has also reaffirmed its commitment to the region and to science geared towards the common good, capable of advancing with rigour, alliances and a global vision.
We will continue to work across the board, from the ground up and with a global perspective. Thank you for making this possible!
