SHIELD - Smart Holistic Integrated Early-warning Laboratory and Digital system for arbovirus surveillance

SHIELD offers a scientifically robust and operationally feasible solution to Europe’s critical need for rapid, interoperable diagnostics for mosquito-borne arboviruses. By integrating portable molecular testing, AIdriven analytics, and digital interoperability, SHIELD shifts European arboviral surveillance from a reactive to a proactive system, reinforcing health security, One Health preparedness, and technological autonomy across the Union. Furthermore, SHIELD’s modular design and open-source software ensure not only rapid deployment across Europe but also the potential for adoption in other regions facing similar arboviral threats, positioning the project as a global model for integrated surveillance and diagnostics. This will enhance preparedness and response to vector-borne diseases worldwide, contributing significantly to global health security efforts.
