MP-SCAN - A scalable low-cost hyperspectral imaging-based platform for microplastic detection in drinking water

MP‑SCAN is a Proof‑of‑Concept project aimed at developing a fast, cost‑effective, and scalable methodology for the detection and classification of microplastics in drinking water. The project adapts hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technology, previously validated for food applications, to aqueous matrices, addressing the new mandatory monitoring requirements of the EU (>20 µm). It also involves developing new analytical workflows, a prototype for online detection, and activities focused on technology transfer, market validation, and protection of results.
