Computer vision (CV) is a non-invasive technology widely used across different fields, with significant potential in poultry meat production, whether at farm level, in slaughterhouses or within the processing industry. The aim of this project is to demonstrate its potential and promote its adoption among companies in the poultry sector, highlighting the opportunities it offers to improve production processes, particularly at farm level.

The project will begin with a sector analysis to identify the specific needs of companies. Subsequently, computer vision systems for monitoring live animals will be designed and implemented. Finally, knowledge transfer activities will be carried out, including an outreach video and an in-person session to present the results and the potential of the technology.

Visual monitoring enables the early detection of behavioural changes that may indicate health or welfare issues, facilitating decision-making and the implementation of corrective measures. This contributes to reducing the impact of health problems, lowering antibiotic use and improving feed efficiency, helping animals to grow in line with their genetic potential. In this context, computer vision is presented as a key tool to drive innovation, knowledge transfer and the digitalisation of the poultry sector.

The specific objectives are to demonstrate the potential of computer vision to improve production processes; to design and implement software tools to monitor weight, behaviour and activity in poultry; to enable participating companies to monitor their animals using these tools; and to transfer existing and newly generated knowledge on the use of this technology in poultry production.
