CEBM - Benthic ecology

The group has proven experience in: 1) molecular and traditional taxonomy and phylogeny of macroalgae, sponges, polychaetes, bivalves, crustaceans, tunicates and fishes; 2) experimental design, both at sea and in the laboratory; and 3) more recent massive sequencing and bioinformatics techniques. Even so, it has also been evolving towards a more ecosystemic vision, integrating ecological aspects of phanerogam meadows (in addition to paleoecological ones), molecular aspects of the dynamics of marine communities and macroinvertebrate populations, including the impact of invasive species and the monitoring of emblematic species or species of commercial interest, but also towards a more integrated vision of coastal ecosystems and society, both in positive and negative aspects. The group has participated/led more than 40 Research Projects, generated about 300 thousand euros in agreements and almost 200 articles in Q1 journals that have received month of 15000 citations in the period 2017-2022.
