SHARE

The AVES (Avian Viruses Emergence and Surveillance) project aims to improve the detection and early warning of emerging avian viruses, such as avian influenza and flaviviruses, in a context marked by climate change and increasing health risks.

Funded by the Interreg POCTEFA programme, AVES promotes a cross-border network of scientific teams from Spain and France to jointly address the surveillance and study of these viruses in the Pyrenean region.

The project combines fieldwork, innovative technologies and laboratory analysis to:

  • Improve the early detection of viruses
  • Understand their circulation in birds and vectors
  • Assess the risk of transmission between species
  • Identify areas at higher risk of an outbreak

Over a three-year period, AVES will help to strengthen health surveillance and support decision-making in animal and public health. IRTA-CReSA is participating by contributing its expertise in avian virology, epidemiological surveillance and the characterisation of emerging viruses.
