IRTA is the scientific reference in the agri-food field in Catalonia and the engine of innovation and transfer for the agri-food sector. Attached to the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat, it is a research center of the BUSCA system of centers in Catalonia. It contributes to the modernization, improvement and promotion of the competitiveness of the agricultural, food, agroforestry, aquaculture and fisheries sectors, as well as those directly or indirectly related to the supply of healthy and quality food to end consumers; to food safety and food processing, and, in general, to the improvement of the welfare and health of the population. IRTA offers solutions to make our agri-food systems more resilient and sustainable and thus contribute to mitigate climate change, preserve biodiversity and make a more efficient use of natural resources such as water or soil.
