Virus and Host Factors as Targets for the Design of a New DIVA Strategy Against Classical Swine Fever

The general objective of this proposal is focused on laying the foundations for the development of a new DIVA strategy against CSFV, based on the tools generated from previous projects. In this strategy, the vaccine and the differential diagnosis method are designed in a coordinated and joint way, for the correct differentiation of vaccinated from infected animals. Taking into account the relevance of persistent infection in the diagnosis and control, this proposal also undertakes the study of mechanisms which may be determinant for the host susceptibility to viral infection, as well as, in the establishment and progression of CSF post-natal persistent disease.
