The Sustainable Animal Husbandry (SAH) aims to scientific sound strategies for more sustainable animal husbandry systems, in line with the Farm to Fork Strategy (EU 2020) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, being the animal welfare a cross-cutting and unifying research driver. The group is a consolidated research group and consists of 25 researchers, 3 postdocs, 20 graduate students and 16 technicians a gathering several Scientific Programs of IRTA¿s Area of Animal Production and coming from different SGRs that have united their expertise and background in animal welfare, genetics, nutrition, management, molecular biology and biostatistics to work in a mission-oriented organigram towards common goals and challenges. The group addresses, in a multispecies (fish, ruminants, pigs, poultry and rabbits) and cross-disciplinary approach, four societal and scientific challenges orientated to move from the traditional Animal Production to the novel Sustainable Animal Husbandry concept.
