The main objectives of the Plant Genetics group of the CRAG Plant and Animal Genomics Program are the study of the organization, variability and evolution of the genomes of cultivated plant species. The group is interested in understanding the genetic basis of key traits of agronomic interest and the genes involved in crop domestication. In order to achieve these goals, we apply genetic, genomic, and bioinformatics to species of the cucurbitaceae and rosacea families such as melon, cucumber, peach, apple and strawberry, among others. Our group has been working in the development of bioinformatics methods and tools that allow analyzing the data generated using massive sequencing technologies. In the following years, we aim at improving our knowledge of the structure and evolution of plant genomes and developing methodologies and tools that can be applied to breeding programs.
