Digital twins (DT) have recently become a trendy topic in a wide range of domains. In this paradigm, physical systems from the real world are mirrored by virtual models, their DT, which facilitate interaction, analyses and even experimentation in silico. This proposal develops the idea that the disruptive technology of DT can boost the performance of digital tools for the precise management of irrigation and fertigation, stimulate the data literacy of farmers and contribute to the development of a specialized market of digital tools and services in Precision Agriculture. The main objective is to evaluate the potentiality of a system of digital twins, representing the Soil-Plant-Atmosphere Continuum (SPAC) of each irrigation management zone, as a frame for decision-making and knowledge discovery in precision irrigation and fertigation.
