Development of high quality biochar from woody biomass to validate its application and impact on soil.

The main objective of the project is to research and significantly improve the production, activation as a superfertiliser, application in agriculture and certification of biochar to ensure its effectiveness and durability in capturing and storing CO₂, while addressing critical challenges in sustainable forest management and improving the resilience of Catalan agriculture and the transparency of the CO₂ offset market. This initiative will capitalise on the growth of the global biochar market identified in the 2023 report, which highlights that despite the increase in biochar production, there are still significant challenges in developing high quality biochar markets and making projects economically viable.
