The Operational Group led by Agropecuaria Montgai, together with Bovifont and Asoprovac Catalunya at the forefront of coordination, and with the participation of the Institute for Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) as a technology centre, are carrying out the innovative pilot project BEEF_LESS_STRAW. With the support of various stakeholders in the livestock sector, the main objective of this innovative initiative is to reduce the use of straw in the feed and bedding of beef calves, without compromising animal welfare and promoting environmental and economic sustainability.

The BEEF_LESS_STRAW project aims to develop targeted feeding strategies by reducing the use of straw in feed, ensuring animal welfare in cases of straw shortages. It will also assess the feasibility and environmental impact of partially or totally replacing bedding straw and develop compost pellets as a value-added product.
