SHARE

The Institute for Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) is launching a new initiative next week: IRTA Pirineu. This new platform is designed to connect and consolidate research projects being carried out in the region. For now, you can stay updated on its latest news and activities by following @irtapirineu on Instagram.

The projects currently under IRTA Pirineu cover a range of research areas, including biodiversity, sustainability, the application of technology in sectors such as livestock farming, climate change, and the social and cultural dynamics of the region. By integrating scientific research with local realities, IRTA Pirineu serves as a valuable platform for understanding and addressing the challenges and opportunities of the Pyrenees. At present, it hosts two projects: Smartwelgraz and Ovihuec.dat. The first focuses on integrating animal welfare and grazing management into the digital transformation of livestock farming in Pallars Sobirà, while the second aims to restore traditional landscape management and enhance forest fire prevention through a communal herd in the Aran Valley.

More than just a label, IRTA Pirineu aspires to become a hub for research, knowledge, and innovation. It is committed to fostering collaboration and synergy between researchers, institutions, businesses, and local communities. The goal is not only to generate theoretical knowledge but also to apply research findings in ways that promote environmentally sustainable practices, restore landscapes, raise awareness of the vital role of farming, and encourage young people to remain in rural areas by improving their quality of life. With contributions from professionals across various disciplines, this initiative aims to position the Pyrenees as a leading center for research and innovation.
