IRTA La Ràpita open doors on the occasion of World Aquaculture Day 2025

On the occasion of World Aquaculture Day, on November 28th, IRTA la Ràpita will hold an open day with the aim of bringing the research carried out at the center closer to the public and the educational sector. The initiative is part of the scientific education and outreach actions promoted by IRTA and reinforces the center’s commitment to knowledge transfer and interaction with the territory.

The conference will feature the participation of the Institute of Professional Aquatic and Environmental Studies of Catalonia (IEPAAC) and high school students from the area’s institutes , as well as the general public interested in learning more about the research lines that IRTA is pursuing. Attendees will be able to discover projects linked to the sustainability of aquaculture , innovation in production systems and the study of marine ecosystems , strategic areas of a sector that respects the environment.

The opening session will feature research and technical staff from the areas of Aquaculture and Marine and Continental Waters , who will present some of the most recent studies that contribute to the sustainability of the aquaculture sector, innovation in production systems and the study of marine ecosystems.

Speakers will include Xavier Benito , Margarita Fernández , Ignasi Gairin and Carles Alcaraz , specialists in marine ecology and paleoecology, oyster farming with local spawners, oceanographic prediction and methods for monitoring endangered species. The presentations will offer a global and informative vision of how IRTA research contributes to the sustainable management of marine resources, the improvement of production systems and the knowledge of environmental changes affecting the coast and the Ebro Delta.

The program will include an experimentation area in the courtyard in OpenLab format, where attendees will be able to experiment and observe the work of the researchers. Likewise, the day will end with a guided tour of the center’s facilities and laboratories. In order to guarantee a good experience for all participants, the activities will be carried out in organized groups .

The conference reinforces IRTA’s commitment to knowledge transfer , the promotion of scientific vocations and collaboration with the educational and social fabric of the territory.
