Cultivation of a wide range of low trophic level species to boost sustainable blue food production and reduce the environmental footprint_Phase 2

1. Demonstrate the commercial or pilot scale production of a wide range of low trophic species: algae and
plants, filter-feeders (e.g. oysters, clams), benthonic invertebrates (e.g. sea cucumber, sea urchin, crayfish),
herbivorous / omnivorous fish (e.g. grey mullet, sardine, carp) in six integrated multitrophic aquaculture
systems in different environments / sea basins - oceans (North and South Atlantic, Mediterranean, Baltic).
2. Describe the effect on nutrient and carbon cycles and environmental impacts measured through Life Cycle
Assessment (LCA) of the incorporation of low trophic species in aquaculture systems and business.
3. Disseminate project output to stakeholders: aquaculture industry, Government and consumers and
promote exploitation to achieve identified outcomes.
