Project Code: M2000_13424
Acronym: FEHM
The main scientific objective of FEHM (Freshwater Ecology, Hydrology and Management) is to study the ecology and hydrology of freshwater ecosystems, both from a fundamental and applied point of view in order to (1) better understand these ecosystems and how natural and anthropogenic disturbances affect biodiversity, hydrological processes and functioning, (2) design tools to improve their management and conservation, and (3) engage the general public to increase interest in and awareness of the importance of these ecosystems. Although freshwater ecosystems are considered in a broad sense (lakes, lagoons, wetlands, reservoirs, and rivers), the FEHM is worldwide recognized for its research in Mediterranean rivers and, more specifically, in temporary ones (i.e.those that experience drying). Evidence for this recognition can be found in the section D6 where national and international collaborations are described.
