Evaluation network of new barley varieties. Contribution of plant material to the new challenges of the sector

The aim of this activity can be summarized in three concepts: Impartial evaluation, improving the sustainability of production through plant material and wide dissemination of the results obtained.
Proposed objectives:
1-Characterization of the behavior of the new barley varieties in the different producing areas.
2-Based on the susceptibility or resistance of the new varieties of barley to the main foliar diseases (ash, rincosporiosis, helminthosporiosis, ...), control strategies will be proposed in order to minimize the use of chemical fungicides according to the conditions of each growing area.
3-Characterization of the efficiency of the use of nitrogen fertilization of the most representative varieties, in order to achieve a good behavior from the point of view of production and quality by adjusting the contributions of fertilizers.
4-Characterization of the ability to compete with the adventitious flora of new varieties and their adaptation to scenarios with a decrease in herbicide applications.
5-Characterization of the capacity of the new genetic material to adapt to climate change through its behavior to water deficits that may occur at any time during its development cycle.
6-Transfer to the sector of the information obtained.
