BIORICE - Biochar and organic amendment impact on Soil microbiota to promote mitigation of GreenHouse gas Emission in rice paddy fields

The main objectives of BIORICE:
1. To test the optimization effect on carbon budget (by reducing GHG and/or boosting soil carbon sequestration) in rice fields of complementing the addition of organic amendments (rice straw and organic manure) with biochar.
2. To enhance bioeconomy in rice agriculture by assessing the use of rice husk to make biochar and hydrochar.
3. To gain insight on the effect of organic amendments, i.e. biochar, hydrochar, rice straw and organic manures, on the underlying processes of carbon dynamics focusing on the link between soil carbon cycling and dynamics of soil microbial community.
