visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;A new line of transversal research to promote the study of the microbiome&#8221; &#8212; IRTA\" src=\"https:\/\/www.irta.cat\/en\/a-new-line-of-transversal-research-to-promote-the-study-of-the-microbiome\/embed\/#?secret=a30SfIO5Wi\" data-secret=\"a30SfIO5Wi\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>In this post we briefly explain what the Microbiome is and we talk about the creation of the Microbiome Transversal Activity of the IRTA<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/center>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Main conclusions of the INIA Forum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding the first section &#8220;<strong>Domestic and EU Strategies<\/strong>&#8220;, it was made clear that there is a great deal of activity that features the subject of microbiota study in agri-food systems and the environment, and importance was given to approaching this challenge through multidisciplinary teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was also mentioned that various H2020 strategic projects have been launched, such as Microbiome Support and CIRCLES, which will be influential within Food2030. The future importance of regulatory aspects in terms of probiotics and biostimulant agents for agri-systems was also emphasised, making it necessary to establish a holistic strategy as to assessing the risks based on the knowledge of the microbiota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for\nthe section on <strong>&#8220;New tools&#8221;<\/strong>, mention was made on\nthe appearance of new sequencing technologies, such as the ongoing improvement\nof nanopore sequencing, and computation data analysis related to the microbiome\nthat will promote the access, management and interpretation of data regarding\nmicrobiota and microbiome studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the\n<strong>&#8220;Soil\nand plant&#8221;<\/strong> section of the forum, the use of microbiota\nstudies was highlighted as a new approach to finding crop management solutions,\nas well as reducing the use of phytosanitary measures and encouraging the\nmanagement of organic waste to be used as fertilisers within the concepts of\nthe circular economy and bio-economy. Good opportunities for research and\nknowledge transfers are expected with the development of new products\n(biostimulants and biofertilisers) for agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As\npart of the <strong>&#8220;Stockbreeding&#8221;<\/strong> section, great\nimportance was given to the use and definition of different animal models so as\nto also understand the modulation of human microbiota. The computational\ncomponent of this area will be highly important and essential to being able to\ntake on studies with large numbers of animals and identify new molecular\nmarkers. Environmental sustainability and animal welfare will have greater and\ngreater weight in regulatory aspects, where knowledge of the microbiome and\nmicrobiota will be of great use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally,\nin the <strong>&#8220;Food Technology&#8221;<\/strong> section, great\nimportance was given to the development and commercialisation of fermented\nfoods, with the objective that they become part of healthy and socially\nacceptable diets.
