The 14th edition of the biennial LCA Food conference will take place in Barcelona, Spain, from September 8 to 12, 2024. This will be the first time that the conference is held in Spain and it will be hosted by IRTA, a research institute owned by the Government of Catalonia and ascribed to the Ministry of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda. IRTA’s mission is to reduce the environmental footprint of agrifood systems, from production to consumption, and transition towards healthier and more sustainable diets.
The LCA Food international conference was born in the 1990s. Its main aim is to assess the sustainability of agrifood systems and guide them to improving their environmental performance. Over the 28 years of its history, the LCA Food conference has become the world’s leading forum on the topic, which also includes the social and economic pillars of sustainability. It reunites hundreds of attendees coming from academia, consultancy, agrifood companies, NGOs, and authoritative public bodies. The conference takes place every two years, and the thirteen editions up to now have been held in countries of Europe, America, and Asia. The last edition was in Lima, Peru, from 12 – 14 October 2022, with the motto “The Role of Emerging Economies in Global Food Security”.
