Apple trees account for 35% of the European orchards and apple fruit trees are the second crop in terms of pesticide use per hectare. The objective of the API-tree project is to design and assess the efficiency and sustainability of combinations of alternative control practices against apple pests in a range of geographic and climatic conditions thanks to the consortium, which comprises countries from Northern to Mediterranean Europe.
The project will both provide new knowledge on innovative practices and assess new systems with extension services and apple growers that will participate to the project, either directly as partners or by testing these systems in their commercial orchards.
